Sarasota City Manager Cancels State Of Emergency called in response to Deepwater Horizon oil spill

The City of Sarasota currently is in a precautionary State of Emergency, which will facilitate the mobilization of resources and assist with the reimbursement of expenditures should the Deepwater Horizon oil spill reach Sarasota.  We are monitoring the oil spill closely along with Sarasota County and its Emergency Operations Center staff.  There is no imminent impact expected to the Sarasota area.  If the oil spill is expected to reach our beaches, estuaries and waterways, protective measures will begin 72 hours prior to the expected impact and those measures will be coordinated by the U.S. Coast Guard, BP, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Sarasota County EOC.
