The Human Relations Board was established to promote and encourage fair treatment and equal opportunity for all persons and to promote mutual understanding and respect among all economic, social, racial, religious and ethnic groups and their members. In furtherance of this purpose, the Human Relations Board shall hear complaints alleging a violation of Article I, Section 5, of the Charter of the City of Sarasota prohibiting discrimination on the basis of age, color, disability, gender, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation or veterans status in the areas of housing, employment, and public accommodation. The Board consists of 7 members who possess the technical, professional, financial, business, or administrative skills necessary to accomplish the work of the Board. Meetings are generally held the fourth Tuesday every other month beginning in January at 6:00 pm in the City Commission Chambers.
