ADVISORY BOARD GUIDELINES

Board Membership - Qualifications and Other Requirements:
a) The preference for members shall consist of the following:
- One member from Booker High School
- One member from Cardinal Mooney High School
- One member from Sarasota High School
- One member from Sarasota Miliary Academy
- One member from Westcoast Center for Human Development
There shall be no more than three members of the Board
from any one school.
b) Each member of the Board shall attend
a high school within the City, or be an at large high school
student City resident, including high school students home
schooled within the municipal limits of the City. Each member
of the Board must be in grades 9, 10, 11, or 12. Each member
of the Board must have a reputation for integrity and community
service as well as have demonstrated an interest in youth
involvement within the City of Sarasota and its government.
c) The purpose and duties of the Board shall be to provide
for the City Commission a youth perspective on issues that
affect the City of Sarasota and to educate the youth of the
City about City government.
d) The City Commission makes appointments from submitted applications
to the City Auditor and Clerk.
e) Freshman, sophomore and junior members
of the Board shall be appointed for a two year term. Seniors
shall be appointed for a one year term. Each term shall commence
upon the beginning of a shool year. Members shall be eligible
to apply for reappointment to the Board. No member, however,
shall serve on the Board beyond that member's graduation date.
h) The Board shall meet once each month during the school
year. Meetings shall be held at a location within City Hall
as determined by the City Auditor and Clerk. Meetings shall
be on weekdays during normal working hours. The City Auditor
and Clerk's office shall be the liaison between the City Commission
and the Board. The City Auditor and Clerk's Office shall provide
the Board members assistance with regard to compliance with
public meeting and public records law as well as parliamentary
procedures as relevant to the proceedings of the Board.
i) The Board consists of five to eleven members.
