The award winning Communications
Department is dedicated to informing the public of what is
going on within
the City of Sarasota, whether it is a much anticipated park
opening, an exciting redevelopment in north Sarasota or a
change in the solid waste collection schedule. All City Commission
meetings are produced by the Communications Department, shown
live and also replayed on Access Sarasota 19 throughout Sarasota
County. Planning Board meetings are also shown live and replayed
on Channel 19. The City of Sarasota is proud to be the only
municipality in Sarasota County currently providing closed
captioning for its government meetings. The Communications
staff also produces three award winning television programs: “City
Life”, “City Focus” and “On Patrol”.

"City
Life" is a news-magazine style show featuring topics
of interest in and around the City of Sarasota. Each
episode consists of a segment spotlighting a particular
city neighborhood, an update from the Police Department,
a segment called "Beyond the Desk", where we
take a look at one of our employees and their life outside
of work, and many other interesting stories. Hosted by
Jan Thornburg, the award-winning "City Life" is
action-packed, fast-paced, and enjoys tremendous popularity
in our community. |

“Commissioner’s Corner” is an
engaging new talk show on Access Sarasota. Each month a different
City Commissioner slides into the host seat and discusses a
timely topic of their choice with one or two guests, who typically
are experts on the subject. The show provides viewers with
an opportunity to learn about an issue impacting the City of
Sarasota in an unfiltered, uninterrupted format. Most editions
of “Commissioner’s Corner” will feature critical
issues which are all but ignored by the local media. Watch
