Since February of 2008 the Sarasota Police Department has seen an increase in violent crime to include homicide, shooting victims, forcible felonies involving guns, and drive by shootings in the North District. The Sarasota Police Department has developed strategic plans to include the New Day in Newtown Initiative to help reduce crime in the community.
During this time frame Officer Misiewicz has been assigned to shift 2A North District. Officer Misiewicz has consistently led his squad in self initiated activity. During these contacts Officer Misiewicz made nine felony weapons arrests, removing these guns from our streets. During this time period Officer Misiewicz worked with several different partners and zones within the north district.
As a leader in arrests, Officer Misiewicz initiated more foot pursuits than any officer on his shift. He consistently runs down fleeing suspects and captures them without assistance due to superior physical abilities and courage. Recently, in response to a burglary report, he observed a possible suspect several blocks from the scene and initiated contact. This suspect fled. Officer Misiewicz ran down the suspect without assistance and arrested him for burglary of a dwelling.
Officer Misiewicz has been with SPD since January 2007.
