CITY WINS AAU TOURNAMENT BID

Sarasota, FL: The City of Sarasota has been awarded the Amateur Athletic Union 14 and under national baseball championship tournament for the year 2007, beating out eight other cities vying for the right to host this major event. The award was announced recently by the AAU during its annual national convention in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Ed Smith Stadium Prepping for AAU Tournament 

The AAU 14 and under baseball tournament is a significant revenue generator, attracting 60 – 80 teams from across the country for a total of approximately 3,400 players and spectators. It is estimated the tournament will pump $7-8 million into the Sarasota-Bradenton economy. The tournament will be held for eight days in July 2007.

The games will be played at baseball fields throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties including Ed Smith Stadium Sports Complex, the Englewood Sports Complex, Venice Wellfield Park, Twin Lakes Park, Cardinal Mooney High School, Lakewood Ranch High School and IMG Baseball Academy.

The City of Sarasota has hosted the tourney ten of the past eleven years.
