CITY PARTICIPATES IN
GREAT AMERICAN CLEANUP
Sarasota, FL: Spring cleaning is on the horizon! Participate in the Great American Cleanup Sat., April 18, 2009 8am – 1pm as the City of Sarasota partners to provide three large Dumpsters for residents to dispose of unwanted household items. All 24,000 households within the City of Sarasota are encouraged to participate.
Dumpsters will be located in the following neighborhoods:
- Alta Vista: SE corner of School Ave. and Shopping Way
- Bayou Oaks: 3209 Old Bradenton Rd. (across from Bay Haven Baptist Church)
- Gillespie Park: SW corner of 4th St. and Osprey Ave.
Accepted items include:
- Wood
- Computers/Monitors
- Printers
- Furniture
- Oil (must be in a plastic container with a lid)
- Paint (only collected at the Gillespie Park location)
- Fluorescent bulbs (only collected at the Gillespie Park location
Household refuse which can be placed in a green solid waste container for weekly trash pickup will not be accepted. Large appliances including stoves, air conditioners and refrigerators also will not be collected. For information on how to dispose of these items, contact Waste Services: 953-6559.
Sustainability and environmental protection is a top priority for the City of Sarasota. The City is partnering with Waste Services of Florida, the Greater Downtown Sarasota Action Team and the Neighborhood Response Team to bring the Dumpsters to the neighborhoods. Volunteers are also needed to help collect litter along right-of-ways. Trash bags will be provided. You will need to bring your own gloves. To volunteer, contact Keep Sarasota County Beautiful: 861-5000.
