CITY RECEIVES
TREE CITY USA DESIGNATION

Sarasota, FL: The City of Sarasota was honored again as a Tree City USA community by the Arbor Day Foundation, recognizing the City’s commitment to the urban canopy. This is the 23rd year Sarasota has received this esteemed award.

Four criteria are used to evaluate potential Tree City USA communities. Sarasota received its designation based on the City’s:

• Tree Ordinance
• Comprehensive tree program
• Parks, Recreation and Environmental Protection Advisory Board
• Annual Arbor Day observance

Besides meeting the four criteria, the designation recognizes the City of Sarasota’s commitment to promoting a healthier community through trees. In urban areas, trees reduce the heat effect caused by pavement and buildings. Trees also conserve water, provide habitat for wildlife, increase property value and moderate climate.
