In the category, “TV & Videos: Regular Programming”,
the 30-minute program “City
Life: March 2007” earned
a Silver Circle award. The program featured a vast array
of City Hall information and human interest stories, including
features about the hospice clown statues, a new generator
at public works, modified days for lawn irrigation, a history
lesson about the Sarasota police department and a sit-down
interview with world renowned urban planner Andres Duany.
When viewing the entry, the judges’ comments included, “Everything
is top notch! Professionalism is the key phrase with this
piece.” The program was shot, edited and produced by
Government Access Program Coordinator Miles Larsen. Public
Information Officer Jan Thornburg co-produced and hosted
the show.
In the category, “TV & Videos: One-Time Programming”,
the episode “On
Patrol: Special Edition” was
honored with a Silver Circle award. The show provided viewers
with a rare behind-the-scenes tour of the Sarasota Police
Department, highlighting problems with the facility. One
judge commented, “Love the factoids. Great idea for
this type of challenge.” The program was shown on Access
Sarasota for more than a month prior to the successful passage
of a $50 million bond referendum for a new police headquarters.
