Martin spent her first week on the job becoming more familiar
with the three courses which comprise the 45-hole Bobby Jones
Golf Club: the American Course, the British Course and the
Gillespie Executive Course. “I’m a hands-on person.
I want to see the courses first hand and learn what’s
good and bad about each one,” she said. Martin is particularly
looking forward to early October when the British Course
will re-open after being closed for renovation.
Managing a municipal golf course is nothing new to Martin.
She supervised the city course in Sandusky, Ohio for 9 years
prior to moving to Sarasota and has worked in municipal government
for almost 20 years. As a result of the City’s recent
reorganization, Martin was slated to become the Bobby Jones
Golf Club Manager this month; however, the transition occurred
several weeks early due to the resignation of Ray Grady,
the former manager.
Martin is now balancing her duties at the Bobby Jones Golf
Club while continuing to oversee the recreation activities
at the Skate Park, the Steigerwaldt-Jockey Children’s
Fountain and Ed Smith Stadium. She has been employed with
the City of Sarasota since January 2005.
