‘BRITISH OPEN’ AT
BOBBY JONES GOLF CLUB
Sarasota, FL: The Bobby Jones Golf Club
will host its own ‘British Open’, Wed., October
1, 2008 at 10am when the British Course opens once again
after being closed for nearly five months for renovations.
As part of the celebration, Mayor Lou Ann Palmer and Vice
Mayor Ken Shelin will tee off simultaneously from the first
hole using replica Bobby Jones wooden shaft clubs. The public
is welcome to attend the ‘British Open’.
|
When the public
tees off, starting at 11:30am, they will see a British Course
with a new look, after a complete greens rebuild this summer.
The course has been closed since mid-May to refurbish and
enhance all 18 greens. Eight sand traps also were added,
and the tee extended on the 18th hole.
The British Course is considered the more
forgiving of the two championships courses at the Bobby Jones
Golf Club. The combination of wide open fairways and few
course hazards makes it a golfer’s favorite. |
 |
The first eight tee times (four golfers per tee time)
on the new British Course will be auctioned off, with the
proceeds benefiting the United Way. The highest bidder
will be awarded the honor of being the first golfer to
play the new British Course. To participate in the silent
auction, visit the Bobby Jones Pro Shop, 1000 Circus Blvd.
For greens fees or to schedule a tee time
on line, visit www.bobbyjonesgolfclub.com or
