| Sarasota, FL:
The City of Sarasota is in preliminary discussions with Sarasota
Memorial Hospital for the hospital to use a portion of the
Marion Anderson brownfield site located in North Sarasota.
SMH is considering the possibility of using
the brownfield site as a construction staging area and the
possibility of building a one-story structure, which SMH would
utilize as a facility management structure. “Presently,
we are in discussions with Sarasota Memorial Hospital on some
conceptual ideas, with both of us mutually understanding the
importance of providing economic stimulus opportunities for
the Newtown community,” said Lorna Alston, General Manager,
North Sarasota Redevelopment Division.
The conceptual proposal calls for using the
site as a construction staging area where 200 vehicles would
be parked while SMH builds its Court Yard Tower on the hospital
campus. The proposal also includes the construction of a 40,000
square foot structure, which would be used for storage. Long
term uses of the new building are being discussed.
As a brownfield, the Marion Anderson site must
undergo environmental cleanup prior to construction. The Florida
Department of Environmental Protection is involved with these
very preliminary discussions to help determine feasibility.
The Marion Anderson site is located at 2046 Martin Luther
King, Jr. Way.
