Sarasota, FL: Crews
will begin demolishing
five vacant structures along S. Washington Blvd., which are
owned by the City of Sarasota, within the next week. The buildings
are situated on three properties located at 2023 Laurel St.,
325 S. Washington Blvd., and 423
S. Washington Blvd. The structures will be demolished
within 30 days from the start of the project.
The City of Sarasota purchased the properties
this past August and will continue to lease office space to
a veterinary clinic located on one of the properties. The
other properties, which have become an eyesore along one of
Sarasota’s major arteries, will be cleaned up. First,
the five vacant structures, including a former exotic nightclub,
mobile home repair shop and tire store, will be demolished.
Then, the land will be sodded and remain an open green space
until the City determines its future use.
Forristall Enterprises, based in Palmetto,
was awarded the bid. Crews will prepare the area soon by installing
temporary fencing to contain debris within the demolition
area. Unreasonable noise levels are not expected; however,
some work may occur early in the morning or early in the evening
to avoid disruption on the veterinary clinic’s parking
lot adjacent to the demolition zone. Road closures will not
be required.
