Sarasota, FL:
The City of Sarasota is issuing a call to professional Florida
artists for a public
art competition, known as “Intersections”.
The Call to Artists opens today and closes Fri., January 15,
2010.
A dozen artists will be selected to display
sculptures throughout downtown Sarasota for one year. Ultimately,
one sculpture will be purchased by the City of Sarasota.
During the selection process, 30 artists will be invited to
submit maquettes of their concepts. The Public Art Committee
will select twelve finalists, who each will receive a $2,500
lease fee to display their sculpture in Sarasota for one year.
After that time, the City Commission, with input from the
Public Art Committee and the community, will purchase one
of the sculptures for $20,000.
The anticipated timeline for “Intersections”
is:
Initial Submissions: Due January 15, 2010
Maquettes: May 1, 2010
Sculptures Displayed: October 2010 – October 2011
Finalist Selected: November 2011
