CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT

Sarasota, FL: The public is invited to provide comments and suggestions for possible revisions to the City of Sarasota Charter during a Charter Review Committee meeting Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 1565 First Street. The ten member panel, appointed by the City Commission, has the authority to review the entire City of Sarasota Charter and recommend additions, deletions or modifications.

The City Commission has allotted nine months for the Committee to review the Charter and provide a final report. Any changes to the Charter must be approved by referendum.

In 2007, Sarasota voters passed a referendum requiring the complete review of the Charter every ten years. It was last reviewed, with a limited scope, in 2006.
