CITY SEEKS
CITIZENS’ ACADEMY PARTICIPANTS
Sarasota, FL: Registration is now open for the City of Sarasota’s
sixth Citizens’ Academy to be held Thurs., October
16 – Thurs., November 13. Residents and business owners
interested in learning the ins and outs of their municipal
government should sign up for this unique look at how City
Hall operates.
The Citizens’ Academy is a fun, interactive experience

of City Hall. The sessions are informative, interactive and
engaging, with City officials providing behind-the-scenes
tours. The Sports and Recreation Department will provide
tours of Bobby Jones Golf Course and Ed Smith Stadium, with

explaining what it takes to host major events such as the
AAU Baseball Tournament, spring training baseball, and the
Men’s Annual City Golf Championship. Participants
in the Citizens’ Academy will experience walking on
center stage at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center, and
learning how the Van Wezel staff books events and juggles
entertainment schedules. Sarasota police officers will also
provide hands-on demonstrations of what they do daily to
protect the community. |

There is no charge for the seven week
course; however participants are asked to commit to attend
the six Thursday night sessions and one Saturday afternoon
session. The Citizens’ Academy is scheduled to begin
Thurs., October 16th and conclude Thurs., November 13th.
The Academy will culminate with a graduation ceremony during
the City Commission meeting Mon., December 1, 2008.
