FL: Applications are now being accepted for the Fall 2010
Citizens
Academy. The Fall session will be held Thurs., October 7 –
Wed., December 1, 2010. City of Sarasota residents and business
owners interested in learning about the inner workings of
their municipal government are encouraged to submit an application
to Neighborhood & Development Services by Fri., September
24th.
The Citizens’ Academy is an interactive
eight week course designed to educate residents about City
Hall. The sessions are engaging and informative, with City
officials providing behind-the-scenes information and tours.
City functions scheduled to be highlighted include: Public
Works; Police Department; Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall;
Neighborhood & Development Services; Human Resources;
Bobby Jones Golf Complex; Information Technology; Office of
Housing & Community Development; Financial Administration;
Office of the City Manager; Office of the City Auditor and
Clerk; and the City Attorney. Registered participants also
will learn about emergency services with the Sarasota County

There is no charge for the course; however,
participants are asked to commit to attend all eight evening
sessions. The Citizens’ Academy is scheduled to begin
Thurs., October 7th and conclude Wed., December 1st. The Academy
will culminate with a graduation ceremony during a City Commission
meeting December 6th.
