CITY WELCOMES SISTER CITIES
STUDENT PLAYWRIGHTS
Sarasota, FL: The City of Sarasota will welcome
students from three Sister Cities who won a playwriting
competition connected to the Florida Studio Theatre based
in Sarasota. Eight young playwrights will be honored
from three sister cities: Dunfermline, Scotland; Tel Mond,
Israel;
and Vladimir, Russia.
The Florida Studio Theatre accepted 9,200
plays written by students from all over the United States,
plus Sarasota’s
Sister Cities. The winning students from Sarasota’s
Sister Cities range from 5th grade to 10th grade. Tohar
Strul, a 7th grader from Tel Mond, will return to Sarasota
to accept her second playwright award in three years. Her
award winning play this year is entitled “Red Color”
The students’ plays will be performed Sat., May
17, 2008 at three theatres simultaneously in Sarasota.

During their stay in Sarasota, our Sister Cities students
will visit Selby Gardens, and Mote Marine Aquarium. They
also are scheduled to visit Jungle Gardens where many of
the youngsters will be wowed by the sight of alligators
and flamingoes for the first time.
The young Sister Cities playwrights also will be honored
as honorary citizens during the regular City Commission
meeting at 2:30pm on Mon., May 19, 2008 at City Hall, 1565
First Street. Immediately following that presentation,
the students will attend a reception at City Hall hosted
by the City of Sarasota Youth Advisory Board.
