TEMPORARY WATER INTERRUPTIONS
DELAYED
Sarasota, FL: Due to a conflict with the
Yom Kippur holiday, a public works construction project
on Lido Key will be delayed by one week. City of Sarasota
water customers on South Lido Key will temporarily lose
their water service beginning Mon., October 13, 2008, to
facilitate a much needed public works construction project.
Immediately following the water interruption, impacted areas
will be placed under a boil water advisory for approximately
two days.
The construction project is scheduled for four phases over
four weeks. The expected timing and impacted
areas (see map) are as follows:
• Phase One: S. Polk Dr. and Benjamin Franklin Dr.
- Oct. 13th
• Phase Two: Benjamin Franklin Dr. south of Harrison
Dr. - Oct. 20th
• Phase Three: S. Polk Dr. and Benjamin Franklin Dr.
north of Harrison Dr. - Oct. 27th
• Phase Four: Benjamin Franklin Dr. south of 1770
Benjamin Franklin Dr. - Nov. 3rd
During each phase, the water will be shut
off for approximately four hours. While the water is turned
off, public works crews will replace multiple valves within
the water distribution system. The valves must be replaced
periodically due to age and deterioration. The boil water
advisory will be issued when the water is shut off. Typically,
such advisories are in effect for two days while bacteriological
tests are conducted. Once satisfactory test results are
received, a rescission notice will be issued, lifting the
boil water advisory.
Many customers will be impacted more than once during the
four phases. To give those customers a respite from the
inconvenience, the water shutdowns will be staggered every
other week. Door hangers will be placed in the impacted
areas reminding people of the upcoming water shutoff and
boil water advisory.
