CHILDREN’S FOUNTAIN CLOSES TEMPORARILY

Sarasota - The Steigerwaldt-Jockey Children’s Fountain located within Island Park in downtown Sarasota will be closed Wed., December 27 – Fri., December 29, 2006 for maintenance.

The eight concrete statues at the fountain will be re-glazed by the original artists, Danielle and Papo Glaysher. The couple glazes the statues twice a year with a sealant to prevent deterioration. The funding for the upkeep comes from the City’s public art maintenance and repair program.

The late Donna Steigerwaldt, former chief executive officer for Jockey International, donated $250,000 to the City of Sarasota for the construction of the children’s fountain. It was dedicated in April 1997.

For the latest information regarding the Steigerwaldt-Jockey Children’s Fountain, please call 954-4101 ext. 5254.
