FRUITVILLE ROAD CONSTRUCTION
PROJECTS BEGIN SOON

Sarasota, FL – Two improvement projects along Fruitville Road are expected to create lane closures from Honore Ave. to Wallace Ave. as the road is repaved and landscaped.  The repaving project is already underway by the Florida Department of Transportation and is expected to be completed in 2010.  The streetscape project, overseen by the City of Sarasota, will begin on or around Fri., June 5, 2009 and will finish by the end of July 2009.

For the City’s streetscape project, landscaping, irrigation lines and decorative pavers will be installed in the medians from just west of McIntosh Road to just east of Washington Boulevard (U.S. 301).  Construction workers will be on site from 6am – 8pm daily.  The inside lanes will be closed daily; however, all lanes will remain open during morning and afternoon rush hours.  There will be no westbound lane closures between 7am and 9am and there will be no eastbound lane closures between 3pm and 6pm.  From Mon., June 8th  through Fri., June 19th, the outside westbound lane will be closed during non-rush hours to install water meters for the landscaping.

Simultaneously, FDOT will repave Fruitville Road (State Road 780) from Honore Avenue to Wallace Avenue.  Lane closures for milling and paving will be restricted to 9pm - 5am.  As with the streetscape project, there will be no lane closures westbound between 7am and 9am, and no lane closures eastbound between 3pm and 6pm.  In addition to resurfacing the road, the project will include sidewalk and median improvements as well as the installation of new traffic signal mast arms at six intersections (East Ave., Lime Ave., Shade Ave., N. Lockwood Ridge Road, Mimosa Dr., McIntosh Rd.) and new pedestrian signalization and signage at two intersections (Tuttle Ave., Honore Ave.).  The project is scheduled to finish in early summer 2010.
