“INTERSECTIONS” ART
PROJECT COMING TO DOWNTOWN

Sarasota, FL: Residents can soon get a glimpse of a dozen new sculptures when the public art competition known as “Intersections” comes to downtown Sarasota.

Twelve artists were selected to display their work at high profile locations in the shopping and dining areas of downtown, in hopes their work will be the one selected and purchased by the City as part of the Public Art Collection. The artists will begin installing their sculptures in October. The art will be on display until November, 2011.  At that time, the City Commission, with input from the Public Art Committee and the community, will choose one sculpture to be purchased for $20,000.

A kick-off event is planned for early December, 2010 at the newly renovated Selby Five Points Park.  The public can meet the artists and join the Public Art Committee members for a walking tour to view the sculptures.

The artists who are not selected may request that their piece be included in the Public Art Loan Program.

The public can view the artwork by visiting the City’s website at www.sarasotagov.com.
