NEW TOOL AVAILABLE FOR
AFFORDABLE HOUSING LANDLORDS
Sarasota, FL: Landlords throughout the City
of Sarasota and Sarasota County now have a new tool to
inform potential tenants about available and affordable
units: a website. Landlords can easily register their affordable
units through the Sarasota Office of Housing and Community
Development website at ohcd.sarasotagov.com. Follow
the prompts under “Rental Properties”. Units
can also be registered by calling
1-877-428-8844.
“In the past, only rental properties which received
funding from the State of Florida were allowed to submit
information. But, this new tool broadens the scope by allowing
any landlord within Sarasota County to share information
about affordable housing units available for rent,” said
Don Hadsell, Director of the Sarasota Office of Housing
and Community Development.
OHCD recently contracted with SocialServe.com
to help local residents find affordable rental units. The
site
is designed to match property owners who have rental property
with individuals seeking to rent an affordable apartment
or house. “Our office has seen an increase in available
housing for rent and this is one way to share information
with our workforce to ensure access to affordable housing,” said
Hadsell. Prospective tenants can view available affordable
housing by visiting ohcd.sarasotagov.com.
To be considered affordable housing, a rental unit must
be 140% of the HUD fair market rent. In Sarasota, that
works out to be approximately:
• 1 Bedroom = $1,000/month
•
2 Bedroom = $1,200/month
•
3 Bedroom = $1,500/month
It is anticipated this new system will become the primary
resource for locating rental housing throughout Sarasota
County. “If you are a property owner who has available
rentals, I encourage you to list your property today,” said
Hadsell.
