| Sarasota,
FL: Main Street is completely open to vehicular traffic after
the contractor finished construction approximately one week
ahead of schedule. “Jon F. Swift is doing an excellent
job to uphold our motto for the project: ‘Get in. Get
it done. And Get out!’” said Mary Ellen Maurer,
project manager.
An antiquated water main was replaced in
downtown requiring portions of Main Street to be closed starting
June 1st. It was anticipated the closures could last one month.
Instead
it was just ten days. “This is good news for our downtown
stakeholders --- our business owners, residents and shoppers,”
said Ms. Maurer. “We worked closely with the community
to keep them informed about the construction and how it would
impact them. Now, we’re pleased to say the job is done
early.”
The annual boat parade will take place Thurs.,
July 1st. Days later, the Downtown Sarasota Alliance will
host its first annual July 4th Street Party with the night
ending with a traditional spectacular fireworks display.
Immediately following Independence Day,
the downtown improvements will resume. Five Points, where
Main Street, Central Avenue and Pineapple Avenue converge,
will return to its original design as a roundabout, albeit
this time as a modern, well-functioning one. The roundabout
is expected to open by Labor Day. Free public and valet parking
will be available.
