NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

Sarasota, FL: The City of Sarasota will celebrate the 24th annual National Night Out Against Crime Tues., August 7, 2007 from 7pm – 9pm at Bayfront Park. Residents are encouraged to participate in the event which helps neighborhoods unite against crime.

“National Night Out has proven to be an effective, inexpensive program to enjoy neighborhood spirit and promote police-community partnerships in the fight for a safer nation,” said Michael Raposa, Neighborhood Partnership Office Director. This year’s celebration will feature food, music, and giveaways within the beautiful setting of Bayfront Park. A children’s area will be on site with entertainment, games and a moon walk.

National Night Out was introduced by the National Association of Town Watch in 1983 as way to heighten awareness and generate support for local anti-crimes programs. More than 11,000 communities throughout the U.S. and Canada are expected to participate next month. It is estimated more than 35 million people took part last year in a local National Night Out event.
