‘NEW BEGINNING FOR NEWTOWN’
UPDATE SCHEDULED
Sarasota, FL: You are invited to attend a community meeting
to discuss the status of the ‘New Beginning for Newtown’ initiative
and infuse renewed energy into the program. The meeting, “Continuing
to Celebrate Change”, will be held Mon., October
27, 2008 6pm – 8pm at the Robert L. Taylor Community
Complex, 1845 34th Street. Refreshments will be served.
“The purpose of this meeting is to share with the
citizens of North Sarasota what has happened since the
initial “New Beginning” community-wide meetings
held last February and to harness greater participation,” said
Shavon Reed, with the Newtown Redevelopment Office. Five
action committees, comprised of community residents and
business owners, were created in February: Community Health,
Economic Development, Law Enforcement, Neighborhoods, and
Youth Services. Representatives from each committee will
discuss their current projects and long term goals, then
host a question and answer session.
There also will be interactive breakout groups for each
committee to discuss priority action items and how available
community assets can be used to turn those priorities into
reality. “The objective is also to unite, encourage
and show appreciation toward those who have worked diligently
as volunteers to nurture and build the community through
the vision of a “New Beginning for Newtown”,
said Reed.
