Sarasota, FL: The City of Sarasota remains committed to moving forward with green initiatives by hiring a new Environmental Specialist. Alison Albee will coordinate the City’s sustainability efforts, with an emphasis on developing an action plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase recycling within the community. “I see this role as not only an opportunity to assist the City of Sarasota to continue to grow economically while protecting the environment through sound, science-based management and resource conservation policies, but also as an opportunity to cultivate a common understanding throughout the community of the benefits sustainability provides as a way of ensuring a better quality of life for present and future citizens of Sarasota,” said Albee.
Ms. Albee joins the Public Works Department with more than 20 years experience in environmental operations including resource conservation and community outreach in the public and private sectors. She has been employed by Mote Marine Laboratory where she worked as a staff chemist; Sarasota County where she developed an energy conservation expo; and Tropicana Products in Bradenton where she identified methods to reduce resource consumption to increase operating efficiencies.
Originally from upstate New York, Alison has lived in the Sarasota area for more than 20 years. Ms. Albee graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science and policy. She is an active member of the Longboat Key Turtle Watch and sits on the Board of Directors for Save Our Seabirds.
