Sarasota, FL: The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is moving forward with a request by the City of Sarasota to conduct an administrative review of events surrounding the handling of a recent case by the Sarasota Police Department. City Manager Robert Bartolotta was notified yesterday via letter that a top official with the Sheriff’s Office has been assigned to the case and detectives experienced in conducting internal investigations will assist. No deadline has been set for the completion of the review.
Bartolotta requested that the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office review how SPD handled the arrest and custody of Juan G. Perez on June 26, 2009 and the subsequent actions and/or omissions by individuals within SPD and any departments under the supervision of the City Manager.
