| Sarasota,
FL: Palm Avenue, between Cocoanut Ave. and Main St., temporarily
will remain a one-way street at least until Fri., June 11,
2010. Unexpected difficulties were encountered with the installation
of a new water main. Traffic will continue to flow southbound
(toward Main Street) for approximately one more week.
The new water main is one of many improvement
projects occurring in downtown Sarasota. A few yards to the
north on Palm Ave., construction is underway for the new parking
garage and retail space. An antiquated water main is being
replaced under Main Street, requiring the closure of Main
Street from Palm Ave. to the Five Points intersection the
month of June. When that improvement is completed, work will
begin on a new roundabout at Five Points to create a more
user-friendly intersection. When the projects are finished,
downtown will be even more attractive and enjoyable for residents,
business owners and visitors.
