CITY WELCOMES
PUERTO RICAN EXPO
Sarasota, FL: The City of Sarasota is pleased
to welcome the first annual Puerto Rican International
Expo to the Municipal Auditorium, 801 N. Tamiami Trail,
Sat., August 30, 2008. The event, hosted by the Puerto
Rican Chamber of Commerce of Sarasota/Manatee Counties
Inc., is open to the public for a festive time of entertainment,
shopping and cuisine. The day portion, 11am – 5pm,
is free to the public; the evening activities, 8pm – midnight,
are $10 per person and will include comedian Bill Santiago
from Comedy Central’s “Pardon My Spanglish”,
plus a 12-piece band, Los Soneros Orquestra.
City Commissioner Kelly Kirschner will bestow two honorary
citizenship citations during the expo. Dr. Manuel Figueroa,
president of the Puerto Rico Products Association, and
Jose Julian Alvarez-Maldonado, president of the Puerto
Rico Chamber of Commerce, will be honored for their continued
commitment to export Puerto Rican products to the Sunshine
State.
The expo, entitled “Crossing the Oceans”,
will feature approximately 50 Puerto Rican businesses which
help pump an estimated $3.5 billion a year into the Florida
economy.
