The Tony Saprito Fishing Pier is temporarily closed after
it was damaged during the weekend from high winds and surf
as a cold front
blew through Sarasota. Efforts are underway to repair the
pier and reopen it as soon as possible.
In 2007, the Saprito Pier was fitted with wooden
panels which are designed to pop out during high surf, thereby
preventing or minimizing damage to the concrete pier deck.
During this past weekend’s storm, the panels worked
as they should and were displaced from the pier. Once the
panels are repaired and reinstalled, the pier will reopen.
