Sarasota, FL:
Access Sarasota, the government access channel in Sarasota
County, has been honored by a national professional organization
with an award for “City Life”, a popular program
produced by the City of Sarasota Communications
Office. The episode “City
Life: December 2008” was awarded second place earning
a Silver Circle Award at the recent 3CMA annual conference.
3CMA, the City, County Communications &
Marketing Association, honors outstanding achievement in public
communications. The award winning episode was entered in the
category “TV and Video – News Programming”.
The City of Sarasota, with approximately 53,000 residents,
competed against governmental entities with populations as
large as 430,000. “This award is especially gratifying
when you consider the size of the organizations we were up
against,” said Jan Thornburg, Public Information Officer
and host and executive producer of “City Life”.
“430,000 is almost eight times our size. We don’t
have a large staff or state of the art equipment, but we produce
high quality television programs. That’s a testament
to the commitment and talent of our staff,” said Thornburg.
Miles Larsen is the show producer, editor
and primary videographer. John Nopper videotapes and edits
segments about the Sarasota Police Department as well as a
feature called “Beyond the Desk”, which highlights
a City employee and their inspirational activities away from
City Hall.
“City Life” is a popular 30-minute
program which features events and issues which involve the
City of Sarasota. “City
Life: December 2008” includes a feature about the
Bayfront Connectivity charrette, a profile on the Lake Ridge
neighborhood and an introduction to a City of Sarasota employee
and his unique charitable work.
“City Life” is shown on Access
Sarasota, Comcast Cable channel 19 and Verizon Fios channels
32 and 34, at varying times throughout the week. Program
