CITY AWARDED STIMULUS FUNDS;
PURSUES MORE GRANTS
Sarasota, FL: The City of Sarasota has been awarded more than $2 million in state and federal stimulus grants, provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, and continues to pursue more grants for community improvements. “This is a competitive process” said City Manager Robert Bartolotta. “We are very pleased we’ve already been awarded several grants. Almost daily, we learn about new stimulus grants and we are submitting the most comprehensive applications we can to obtain as much stimulus money as possible for Sarasota.”
The City will receive four stimulus grants totaling $2.1 million. Those dollars are earmarked for four community projects:
-
Siesta Drive Drainage Project: $1,053,068
-
Energy Study/Green Jobs: $598,100
-
Police Justice Assistance Grant: $236,034
-
Newtown Storefront Rehabilitation project: $151,507
The City also applied for $8.8 million in public safety and environmental cleanup grants, and expects to be notified soon regarding the disposition of those dollars. The grants applied for are:
-
Marion Anderson Place Brownfields: 8,000,000
-
Police Officer Retention: $750,000
-
Police Justice Assistance Grant: $100,000
As more stimulus grants become available through the federal and state governments, staff will assess the City’s eligibility. Applications may be submitted in the coming months for grants earmarked for housing, energy, transportation and public safety.
