CITY RECOGNIZES
TARTAN DAY

Sarasota, FL:  Mayor Lou Ann Palmer will pay tribute to the heritage of Sarasota’s original settlers by declaring Mon., April 6, 2009 “Tartan Day” during a 1pm ceremony in the lobby of City Hall, 1565 First Street.

A bagpiper will lead a procession into the lobby prior to Mayor Palmer becoming an honorary Scot for the day.  The Scots attending the ceremony will wear traditional Scottish attire and kilts.

Sarasota was first settled by Scots in 1885.  “Tartan Day” is celebrated throughout the nation to recognize the many contributions Scots have made to our country.
