NEW WATER RESTRICTIONS
Sarasota, FL: New water restrictions are now in effect within the City of Sarasota after SWFWMD, the Southwest Florida Water Management District, declared an extreme water shortage for Sarasota, Charlotte, DeSoto and Manatee Counties.
New water restrictions include:
- New lawns: 30-day establishment period (previously 60 day)
- Any day during first 15-days; before 8am and after 6pm
- Every other day after 15-days; before 8am and after 6pm
- New plants: 60-day establishment period
- Any day during first 30-days; before 8am and after 6pm
- Every other day after 30-days; before 8am and after 6pm
- Hand watering plants: any day before 8am and after 6pm(previously any time)
- Fountains/Waterfalls: 4 hours per day (previously 8 hours)
- Restaurants: serve water only on request
Residential and commercial lawn irrigation within the City of Sarasota is still limited to once a week. Even numbered addresses may water only on Tuesday; odd numbered addresses may water only on Thursday. Irrigation is still limited to before 8am and after 6pm.
The Public Works Department will continue to respond to citizen complaints. The City of Sarasota currently has nearly 100% compliance with irrigation restrictions.
SWFWMD anticipates the new restrictions to be in effect at least until June 2009.
