YOUTH ADVISORY BOARD HOSTS TEEN DANCE
Sarasota - The City of Sarasota Youth
Advisory Board will host a teen dance
Fri., April 13, 2007 8pm – midnight at the Payne
Park Auditorium, located at 2100 Laurel Street. Teenagers
15 to 19-years-old are invited to attend. Identification
is required. Admission is $5 per person. Free energy drinks
will be available.
This the first student event the Youth Advisory Board
has hosted. The Board hopes to gauge student interest in
the possible creation of a teen rec center within the City
of Sarasota. “We want to see if we can get the teens
out now or after school,” said Rachel Moraca, Youth
Advisory Board Vice Chair and a junior at Riverview High
School. “We really hope to get a large group of kids.
That way, we’ll know they’re interested in
having something like a rec center,” said Moraca.
The Youth Advisory Board was established in August 2005
to counsel the City Commission on current issues from a
youth perspective. The City Commission directed the Board
Members to study the issue of teen loitering in the downtown
and develop possible solutions. The Board Members concluded
a teen recreation center could be an option.
The Youth Advisory Board is comprised of eleven students
from six high schools in the area.
