Danny Bilyeu was elected to serve as City Commissioner
in April 2003 and now fills the District 3 seat. Mr.
Bilyeu serves on the Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning
Organization, Sarasota County Juvenile Justice Board,
the Community Action Agency Board and the Manasota Partnership
Agency Advisory Group.
Mr. Bilyeu had previously served as Chairman of the
City's Rosemary District Redevelopment Advisory Board,
member of the City's Charter Review Board for the Anti-Discrimination
Ordinance and Chairman of the City's Nuisance Abatement
Board. He was a member of the new Ringling Bridge Design
Charrette, and also the President and founding member
of two neighborhood associations.
Danny Bilyeu was born and raised on a livestock and
grain farm in Assumption, Illinois. He moved to Sarasota,
Florida in June of 1979, and later married Cathy, who
is an elementary school teacher, in 1986. They have
two daughters, Emily 15 and Anna 9, and are members
of Faith Presbyterian Church. When not performing his
civic duties, Mr. Bilyeu is a self-employed carpenter.
