Lou Ann Palmer was elected to three terms as a City
Commissioner from 1982-1991, and selected for two
terms
as Mayor. She was elected again
in 2001, serving one term as Mayor, and 2005 currently
serving her
2nd consecutive term as Mayor, along with her holding
one of the two City Commissioner At-Large Seats. Among
her current duties, Ms. Palmer serves
as
liaison to the City's three (3) pension boards, and
the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall Advisory Board.
Having served as board chair of Hospice of Southwest
Florida,
she currently sits on the Doctors Hospital Board of
Trustees and is a member and past president of the
Sarasota
Keys Rotary Club.
Lou Ann Palmer has been a resident of Sarasota since
1948. She is a graduate of Sarasota High School and
the University of Michigan, and enjoyed a successful
career as Teacher in Sarasota County. She has also obtained
various certifications in Education during her teaching
career of 32 years, and has held certifications in Real
Estate, Family Mediation Training, and Water Aerobics.
Her family includes two daughters, Kym Palmer Elder
and Kyle Palmer Forment, and four grandchildren. Lou
Ann was an accomplished performer at the Sarasota Players,
the Florida West Coast Symphony, and the Sailor Circus
as a youngster and a choreographer and Director of the
Miss Florida Pageant in the 1960's and 70's.
