Downtown continues to grow and improve as the City implements the tools and themes of the Downtown Master Plan, which encourages the creation of a vibrant, self-sustaining, walk-to-town, Bayfront-connected urban core.

BAYFRONT CONNECTIVITY CHARRETTE

In October 2007, the City Commission directed staff to prepare a request for proposals to reconnect the Downtown to the Bayfront using the most effective and efficient means possible with an emphasis on pedestrian comfort. Achievement of this goal will require changing the current relatively high-speed, pedestrian-unfriendly character of US 41.

The Bayfront Connectivity Charrette focused on the US 41 corridor beginning at 14th Street on the north (near Whitaker Gateway Park) and ending at Osprey Avenue on the south. (Corridor Map)
