BAYFRONT
CONNECTIVITY CHARRETTE
In October 2007, the City Commission directed staff to prepare a
request for proposals to reconnect the Downtown to the Bayfront
using the most effective and efficient means possible with an emphasis
on pedestrian comfort. Achievement of this goal will require changing
the current relatively high-speed, pedestrian-unfriendly character
of US 41.
The Sarasota City Commission needs you to participate
in the development of context-sensitive solutions for US 41 as
it travels
through the City's Downtown Area. The project includes significant
public involvement and consultation with stakeholders, the general
public, FDOT and other local governments. The process for this
public involvement will be a design charrette. A charrette is
a collaborative design and planning workshop that occurs over
four to seven consecutive days.
The Bayfront Connectivity Charrette
will focus on the US 41 corridor beginning at 14th Street on
the north (near Whitaker
Gateway Park) and ending at Osprey Avenue on the south. (Corridor
