Dru
Jones, Economic Development Coordinator, NDS/NRO, has been
the lead person in processing the initial enterprise Zone
designation and the recent expansion. The undertaking of this
project required a complete understanding of State and County
boundary requirements and applicable law.
Having the Enterprise Zone designation in Newtown and surrounding
area provides economic redevelopment incentives to attract
businesses and job creation. Dru works closely with the Enterprise
Zone Development Board and the Newtown Community Redevelopment
Agency Advisory Board. These two boards have been critical
in providing technical assistance and support in the effectiveness
of their operations.
The Community Entrepreneur Opportunity program has been spearheaded
by Dru. This 12-week program is an introduction to business
basics using the business plan as the framework for entrepreneurs
to determine the viability of their business becoming a success.
The course also includes information needed to get started
or inprove a business, back to basics for new business owneres
and extended research for existing businesses to gain future
success. Sonce starting the program in 2005, 80 individuals
have graduated from this program.
Dru manages her projects n a professional manner and has done
an excellent job of prioritizing her workload and meeting
all deadlines. She continues to research topics to assure
a good understanding of the issues and concerns in the development
of the Newtown area and strives to implement initiatives that
would benefit this community.
