Dan
Castorani, Waste Water Program Manager, spent the last several
months researching and seeking best practices to form the
waste water program, which consists of pipe replacement, inflow
and infiltration identification and elimination' amd also
the manhole and pipe rehabilitation.
The City has been on the cutting edge of trenchless technology
to repair and replace pipelines. The waste water program’s
core goal is to maintain the integrity and reliability of
the sewer collection system. This prevents sewer overflows,
provides environmental benefits, and saves the city utility
significant costs over allowing pipes to run to failure. Dan
has been an integral part of the process.
This intense project culminated with the City of Sarasota
being recognized as the Waste Water Collection System of the
Year in 2009.
The City continues to explore new ways to cure old problems
and Dan has been extremely instrumental in the many hours
of research achieved. One of the largest concerns that older
utilities face is the increase flows within the collection
system during the raining season when groundwater levels rise.
In order to reduce the intrusion of inflow and infiltration
the City has a program to evaluate and replace private building
sewers in areas where the most improvement can be realized.
Dan Castorani will be retiring from the City after serving
for over 35 years. Dan began his career in 1973 as a Utility
Specialist and continually worked his way into numerous positions
throughout his career. Dan has served his department and his
community with excellence and pride!
Congratulations!
