Jack Carter
Sarasota Police Department

Jack was presented
and honored before the City Commission
on Monday, April 6, 2009

Detective Jack Carter, has been an incredible asset to the City of Sarasota since the start of his career at the Sarasota Police Department on February 2, 2000.

He has been solely responsible for the organization of a multiple victim identity theft case which has so far yielded up to 34 victims. During this investigation, detectives were able to intercept numerous illegally purchased packages slated for delivery to suspects. The investigation has necessitated the need for lengthy analytical work regarding suspect telephone records and the need for Detective Carter to outline the complete investigation on a spread sheet for assistance in indictment and prosecution. This case also warranted the coordination of work with the Federal US Postal Inspector in identifying additional suspects.

Jack was also responsible for the investigation of a scheme to defraud by a local art dealer. He began his thorough investigation that included interviews of numerous witnesses both in the US and as far as France. During the investigation, Detective Carter discovered numerous other victims of similar facts. One local victim had been defrauded of over $20,000.00 when he purchased a counterfeit painting that had been presented as an original. This led to the subject’s arrest on numerous charges.

Not only has Jack been responsible for working so diligently on difficult cases, he has gone above and beyond to educate the general public on matters of identity theft and fraud for citizen groups and civic organizations. He has coordinated efforts to have local bank representatives provide free training to detectives and officers regarding mortgage fraud and scams.

Detective Carter’s superior work ethic, “can do” attitude and dedication to duty make him an invaluable asset to this department and the community. Congratulations!
