Gregg
Obarski, GIS Analyst, IT, began his career teaming up with
two other GIS (Geospatial Information System) employees. Staff
turnover as well as budget related staff reductions have resulted
in Gregg being the only remaining GIS based employee with
the IT Department. As a result, Gregg has assumed many of
the roles and responsibilities that were at one time shared
by other GIS staff members. He has willingly accepted this
greater responsibility and challenge.
Gregg’s duties include maintaining the City’s
GIS data. This includes keeping accurate records of the City’s
parcel information which impacts many key business areas in
the City. The data is used for creation of permits, calculating
statistics for given areas of the City, and ensuring that
City infrastructure is properly mapped. Despite limited resources,
from a technological and personnel perspective, Gregg has
approached his work with a positive, customer focused attitude
for as long as he has been with the City. As anyone who interacts
with Gregg can attest, he always works to ensure that customer
needs are identified and met quickly and efficiently.
Under the direction of the new IT Director, Gregg has spearheaded
a renewed GIS program to allow the City to operate more efficiently
under difficult economic circumstances. A GIS Steering Committee
has been established to ensure that the City’s needs
for this valuable asset are able to be met efficiently and
effectively. Gregg has adopted the IT Department’s management
model for project management to establish successful development
of GIS based applications such as iWater and SARA. His efforts
have resulted in the establishment of an enterprise wide data
infrastructure for all GIS databases, GIS process mapping,
and the development of a web based GIS data viewer for both
internal and external customers. Gregg Obarski truly serves
the internal and external customers with excellence and pride!
Congratulations!
