Officer John Misiewicz
Sarasota Police Department

Ofc. Misiewicz was presented
and honored before the City Commission
on Monday, October 5, 2009

Officer John Misiewicz, SPD, has proven to be a great asset to the Sarasota Police Department and displays exemplary respect towards his co-workers and supervisors.

Since February of 2008 the Police Department has seen an increase in violent crime to include homicide, shooting victims, forcible felonies involving guns, and drive by shootings in the North District. Strategic plans have been put in place to include the New Day in Newtown Initiative to help reduce crime in the community and Officer Misiewicz is a big part of that.

During this timeframe Officer Misiewicz has been assigned to shift 2A North District. He has consistently led his squad in self initiated activity. During these contacts Officer Misiewicz made nine felony weapons arrests, removing these guns from our streets.

As a leader in arrests, Officer Misiewicz initiated more foot pursuits than any officer on his shift. He consistently runs down fleeing suspects and captures them without assistance due to superior physical abilities and courage. Recently, in response to a burglary report, he observed a possible suspect several blocks from the scene and initiated contact. This suspect fled. Officer Misiewicz ran down the suspect without assistance and arrested him for burglary of a dwelling.
Officer John Misiewicz serves his community with excellence and pride!

Congratulations!
