Applying to the Program

NOTE: Funding for the Down Payment Assistance program comes from State and Federal grant programs. While funding is not available at this time, the program is set to re-open on November 6, 2007. Please contact Debbie Sykes at 951-3640 ext. 3767 with further questions.

  • Applicants interested in purchasing a home through the Down Payment Assistance program should first attend a free homeownership class through Consumer Credit Counseling Services.

  • Click here for a 2007 Homebuyer Class Schedule.

  • All applicants are required to take a homebuyer education course given by a HUD certified counseling agency. The course will give future homeowners the information they need to make a smart choice when purchasing their first home.

  • Applicants should then contact a mortgage lender to be pre-approved for a mortgage and the program. Applicants apply through a mortgage lender for down payment and closing cost assistance once a contract has been executed to purchase a home subject to funds availabilty.

  • The mortgage lender then forwards the application to the Office of Housing and Community Development.

  • For questions about the Down Payment Assistance Program, please contact Debbie Sykes at 951-3640 ext. 3767.
