Passed to ensure Commercial and Business entities
participate in the City of Sarasota’s Citywide
Recycling program. Commercial users which are multifamily

in accordance with these articles. Multifamily dwelling
commercial users must develop a plan for recycling
within the multifamily dwelling which is best suited
to the site, building design and the residents.
The plan of recycling must implement educational
and informational programs, methods of collection
within the multifamily dwelling, container types

necessary to accomplish the source separation and
collection of recyclable material. Commercial users
other than multifamily dwellings are required to
recycle by source separation in accordance with
these articles. Such commercial users must develop
a plan for recycling which is best suited to the
site and building design. The plan should include
the frequency of collection and the size of containers

What is Sustainability?
Sustainability can be defined simply
as meeting contemporary needs without compromising the ability
of future stakeholders to satisfy their needs.
Sustainability attends to three interdependent areas of concern:
environmental preservation, economic viability, and social
justice.A sustainable practice works to preserve rather than
destroy its ecological base, ensure rather than undermine
long-term economic benefits, and advance rather than retard
matters of fairness, equity and diversity.
Is Sustainability the Same Thing as
"Green"?
Green practices
generally address the environment. While sustainability also
addresses environmental issues such as conservation and stewardship,
it looks at the bigger picture to consider issues of social
equity and economic prosperity.

The
city is joining as an EPA Energy Star partner and using
their resources to analyze our energy and water consumption
to find conservation opportunities. There are many benefits
to using energy efficient products, so remember to look
for the Energy Star logo when shopping for home goods
and appliances! |
