Special Events

The City of Sarasota encourages private special events to both enrich the quality of life for our residents and to promote the tourism that sustains our community. A special event is an event sponsored by a non-profit organization that uses City owned land, rights of way, and City services.

Special events can consist of anything from arts festivals to fishing tournaments to parades, with just about anything in-between. There are 16 zones in our downtown area and bayfront approved for special events. Non-profit organizations interested in using City property and services should contact Toni Welicki at (941) 954-4165 ext. 6 for more information. Events take 30 days to process so applicant should submit an application 90 days before their intended event.

Citizens may also hold smaller parties, weddings, or demonstrations in our City parks. These events are not classified as special events, but may require a permit. If you are planning such an occasion, please contact Toni Welicki to ensure that you have all the proper permits in place before your event.
