Programs
The Sarasota Office of Housing
and Community Development (OHCD) has 2 programs to help families
maintain and improve their homes. To apply for either program,
call OHCD at (941) 951-3640 extension 3776.
Housing Rehabilitation Program - an interest
free loan program that helps income eligible families make
necessary repairs and improvements to their homes. The homeowner
determines the repairs that will be made to the ome and selects
their own contractor. The maximum amount that a homeowner
may borrow is $60,000 and there are no monthly payments. Instead,
the homeowner repays the loan when the home is sold, transferred,
no longer occupied by the borrower, or 30 years, whichever
occurs first. the maximum value of a home that can receive
assistance is $272,195.
Barrier Removal Program - a grant and forgivable
loan program designed to remove the barriers in homes to allow
income eligible disabled and elderly residents live independently.
The first $3,000 in assistance is a grant that does not need
to be repaid. Improvements costing between $3,000 and $15,000
are a loan that is forgiven at a rate of $3,000 a year as
long as the property is not sold, transferred, leased and
the homeowner continues to live in the home. There are no
monthly payments or interest on the forgiven loan.
