Advisory Boards

The Planning & Redevelopment Department works with four Advisory Boards covering topics ranging from the placement of public art to historically designated structures and districts to rezones, site plans and comprehensive plan amendment recommendations or approvals. Another Advisory Board advises the Community Redevelopment Agency on development in the downtown area. Follow the links below to learn more about the various advisory boards.

The Planning Board (also known as the Local Planning Agency).

An Advisory Board to the City Commission, the Planning Board was established to approve/deny development applications such as site plans and to provide recommendations to the City Commission on land use changes such as rezones, conditional uses, and comprehensive plan changes.

Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00pm in the City Commission Chambers.

The Historic Preservation Board.

An Advisory Board to the City Commission established to provide recommendations regarding the designation of historically significant structures and archaeologically significant sites to the City Commission. The Board also can recommend the designation of historically significant districts, approve applications for demolition and moving permits, and review recommendations for local properties being referred to the National Register of Historic Places.

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, at 3:00 pm in the City Commission Chambers.

The Public Art Committee.

An Advisory Board to the City Commission established to review and approve proposals for the provision of public art or public works of art; and advising the City Commission regarding the acquisition, placement and display of works of art. The Committee also serves as a liaison between the City and persons or organizations who wish to donate art to the citizens of this community.

Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 1:00 P.M.

The Community Redevelopment Advisory Board (CRAAB).

An Advisory Board that is the primary source of community input to the CRA Agency and to Agency staff. The Board’s functions are advisory only and are to assist with the public input in the local redevelopment planning process.

Meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month at 3:30 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers.
